A Person's a Person No Matter How Small

January 23, 2011

Dear Prime Minister Harper:

Your recent interview with Peter Mansbridge was most disappointing for many Canadians. In particular, I am speaking to the portion when Mr. Mansbridge badgered you into revealing your plan for bringing legislation that would deal with abortion should you manage to attain a majority government. You responded that you will never support any legislation regarding abortion. Your reasoning given was that legislation will not diminish abortion numbers and that this can only be achieved by a change of heart in Canadians.

You are partially correct in that morality cannot be legislated into mankind’s heart and that each person must choose morality (or immorality) individually, however, your reasoning that legislation should not define morality is not sound. If your reasoning was sound then you must move to remove any and all legislation which constrains immoral behaviour such as murder and rape. Surely legislation with moral expectations is necessary to reign in evil and constrain those who choose evil. Without rule of law , lawlessness will surely reign.

I personally believe you to be a man who understands the importance of morality both personally and as a nation. Your stated reasoning regarding legislation dealing with abortion must then be disingenuine. I surmise that your underlying reasoning is that you do not believe that the unborn child is human or you know that in fact it is human but you do not deem it politically wise to defend the truth. Either way, their blood is on your hands.

Prime Minister Harper, would you agree that if the unborn are human, they then have value and rights?

To answer this question of the humanity of the unborn, please review the following 10 minute video by a 13 year old Toronto girl who disputes claims against the humanity of the unborn based on (1) size, (2) level of development, (3) environment, and (4) dependency.

After having viewed the video, please honestly ask yourself if the unborn are human and if so, do they have value and the right to life?

Perhaps Dr. Suess put it best when he wrote, "A person’s a person no matter how small."
